About Us

Our names are Alex & Jess, and in the winter of 2014-2015, we traveled to Poland to adopt our beautiful son, Elliott Seth!  You can learn more about our adoption process by visiting our FAQs page, but here are some fun facts about us.

Alex is Software Engineer and Jess is the Poland Program Case Manager of About A Child Adoption Agency.

We have two dogs who are our substitute children.  They are Dante, a four year old shih-tzu, and Mia,  one year old shih-tzu/chihuahua mix.

We have a cockatiel named Ady, who has a love/hate relationship with us – meaning mostly that she loves Jess and hates Alex.

Our favorite mutual hobbies are biking and geocaching.

Jess first laid eyes on Alex when he was publicly challenged to eat a cotton ball at a party – a challenge he completed both honorably and disgustingly, depending on which of us you ask.

Alex has two tattoos and Jess has three.

Jess has an irrational fear of spiders, heights, and paper cuts.  Alex is irrationally afraid of deep water and cotton balls (see above …).

At our wedding, Alex’s groom’s cake was Angry Birds-themed.

Jess loves otters more than any other animal in the zoo.

Alex proposed to Jess on top of an Indian burial mound, at the same place he first asked her out.

Alex can solve a Rubik’s Cube in less than a minute.

We met at Cedarville University in Ohio, where we both attended college.

Jess is the oldest child in her family (of three) and Alex is the youngest in his (of four).

Alex grew up in Iowa; Jess grew up in Ohio.

Alex’s favorite TV shows are Seinfeld, Breaking Bad, Firefly and The Daily Show.

Jess’s favorite TV shows are Switched at Birth, Friends, Gilmore Girls, How I Met Your Mother, and Little House on the Prairie.

When Alex was a kid, he wanted to be a semi-driver when he grew up.  Jess wanted to be a veterinarian.

Jess can touch her nose with her tongue.

We have a nephew and six nieces.

Jess has broken both her arms, and Alex has never broken a bone.

Our anniversary is May 14th, which we share with Alex’s oldest sister and her husband.
